Senior Section Report 2011

The Senior Section in Merseyside progresses well. We have 8 units with numbers increasing all the time.

Units attended the first County presentation we held at Rainhill Guide House in March, girls were presented with Octant certificates and Chief Guide Challenge Awards by the County Commissioner, Pat Dickinson and Duke of Edinburgh Awards including Gold level were presented by Mrs Chris Ring, County Region D of E Adviser. Congratulations to everyone concerned and the leaders for supporting the girls in their endeavours. Hopefully this event will become an annual occurrence.

In the County, we have several members working on their Queen’s Guide, and it was pleasing that Queen’s Guide Brooches were presented to Moira Ledbetter and Helen Greenway at the presentation evening. Congratulations to them both as they look forward to meeting the Countess of Wessex for their further presentation.

In February we held a ‘Colour Me’ evening when the girls were given fashion tips on how to dress for their colouring and shape, this was a successful evening and is hoped to be repeated.

Senior Section Camp permits were taken by Rebecca Phillips and Laura Archer from Rainhill Rangers; Senior Section Holiday licences were taken by Sarah Owen from 144th Rangers and Catriona Lewis from 202nd Rangers. Congratulations to them all.

Several units participated in the Annual Mersey Moot at Tawd Vale when the weather reverted to rain as usual. But the activities and entertainment offered at the weekend were not affected due to the participant’s enthusiasm.

The Annual Dinner Dance was postponed due to commitments from several units and has been rescheduled for 3rd March 2012, which is a Saturday, an experiment, as the date is usually a Friday. Hopefully most units will meet up once again.

Senior Section Presentation Evening

The County recently held a Presentation evening at Rainhill Guide House for recipients of Baden Powell Awards, Octant Certificates, Chief Guide Awards, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Queen's Guide Award. Unfortunately not all the successful award holders were able to attend the evening to celebrate their achievements due to University and school commitments.

Queen's Guides, Moira Ledbetter – North East Liverpool and Helen Greenway from St Helens were presented with their Queen's Guide brooches by the County Commissioner – Pat Dickinson.

We were pleased that the Region Duke of Edinburgh Award Advisers, Chris and Martin Ring could attend to present award holders for Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels.

Mrs Dickinson also presented the Guiding Awards. Rainhill Ranger Unit donated two cakes – one for our Queen's Guide Award holders and another for the rest of the successful recipients.
