Guides & Senior Section members took part in activities which included dragon boating, kayaking, raft building and sailing dinghies. The weather started off extremely wet but gradually improved as the day progressed. Despite the bad weather the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves even though some of them ended up in the lake; the rescue boat was always on hand.

Rainhill Guide House – Official Opening
After many years of fundraising for a new building, the new Rainhill Guide House was officially opened on 19th June 2010. It was an occasion to celebrate this huge achievement and provide an opportunity for supporters of the project and members of the local community to see the great facilities now on offer.
The event was attended by Girlguiding volunteers from the units that meet there, members of Rainhill Trefoil Guild, County Commissioner Pat Dickinson, County President Robina Murdoch, County Chair of Finance Daphne Barton and Division Commissioner Sue Brindley. The guest list also included many supporters of the re-building project including representatives from the four major funders (Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust, Cory Environmental Trust in Britain, Veolia Environmental Trust and The Ravensdale Trust), Rainhill Gala Committee, Rainhill Rotary Club, Womens Institute and Townswomen Guild to name a few. In addition there were representatives from Globe, the Building contractors and KKA Architects who designed the building.
The ribbon was cut by Julie Doyle, wife of the late Councillor Mike Doyle and a bouquet of flowers was presented to her by Joan Getliff from Rainhill Trefoil Guild.
The guests were shown round the building in small groups before a speech of thanks was given by Chair of Rainhill Guide House Management Committee Irene Humphreys. Rachel Pickles (District Commissioner) then presented a number of Girlguiding Thanks badges to people from the major funders, the architects, the builders and Pam Farmer and Jane Woosey who both undertook individual sponsored challenges in aid of the building fund. Flowers were presented to the ladies who had organised the buffet and thank you gifts were presented to several members of the Management Committee for their support and dedication during the project.
There was also a surprise presentation of a £1,000 donation from Veolia Environmental Trust which was presented in recognition of everyone’s hard work in making the project a reality and to mark the fact that their support of the new Guide House was their 1000th project.
After the speeches and presentations had been concluded, the buffet was served before Pat Dickinson and Robina Murdoch cut the cake.
During the afternoon the building was open to the local community to come and view the facilities – it was lovely to see so many people there especially those who had previously been involved in Guiding and remembered the previous Guide Houses in Rainhill.
Alongside the Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, Senior Section and Trefoil Guild units that use Rainhill Guide House for their meetings, it is anticipated that many other community groups will be keen to make the most of the excellent facilities now available.
